  1. What is the Association of Attorney-Mediators, Houston Chapter?
  2. The Association of Attorney-Mediators is a national organization consisting only of licensed attorneys who have undertaken mediation training. The national group had its genesis in Dallas, Texas. Many Houston lawyers went to Dallas for training in the early 1990’s and the Houston Chapter was formed for those attorney-mediator members who practice in the Greater Houston Area.

  3. Why should I choose a mediator from Association of Attorney-Mediators?
  4. The Association of Attorney-Mediators sets high standards and qualifications for its members. To become a member the attorney must have at least 8 years of experience as a lawyer and most have much more, including several who are Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Additionally, the attorney must then attend mediator training at a facility approved by the Association of Attorney-Mediators.

  5. How is the Association of Attorney-Mediators, Houston Chapter, different from other mediation groups?
  6. Excellence in training and experience are the major distinguishing characteristics of this group. There are other reasons also. The Houston Chapter hosts a monthly Breakfast Seminar in the Clubhouse at the Memorial Park Golf Course which provides one (1) hour per month of CLE involving mediation issues and other legal topics.

  7. Why did the Association of Attorney-Mediators, Houston Chapter, open a web site?
  8. The Board of Directors formed a Web Site Committee, chaired by Director John "Lee" Arellano, for the purpose of studying and implementing this new technology. The Board determined that the Harris County District Judges now have access to the internet; therefore, it was decided that current member information could be provided to the judges, trial lawyers and other interested persons, through this advanced technological medium.

  9. What types of cases do members of the Association of Attorney-Mediators, Houston Chapter, handle?
  10. Due to the vast array of members’ experience virtually every type of legal dispute can be resolved by one or more members of the Houston Chapter.

  11. How can I determine the level of experience, fees charged or the type of cases handled by a particular mediator?
  12. By looking at the Membership Roster which is included at the Houston Chapter’s web site one can see detailed information about the Houston Chapter member, such as, experience level, fees charged, number of cases mediated and the type of cases handled.  Additional memeber information can be found in our Directory Area.

  18. This year’s Breakfast Seminar Chairman is Pamela S. Hoerster. She can be reached at (281) 335-4939. Or, simply show up at The Clubhouse at Memorial Park Golf Course at 7:30 a.m. on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. There is no cost and parking is free. One hour of CLE is awarded for each session. Follow the signs to Beck’s Prime located in Memorial Park.

    Yes. The Chapter publishes a quarterly newsletter which is available on this web site. It discusses relevant mediation issues and other topical legal matters.
